Phila. Dental Office Encourages
Kids to Trade In Their Halloween
Treats
by
KYW's John McDevitt
A
children's dental office in
center city Philadelphia is
hoping for big smiles for US
troops overseas and healthy
teeth for kids back home, with a
trick-or-treat candy trade-in.
The big orange sign on the front
window of the Children's Dental
Associates office, in the 600
block of Chestnut Street, reads
"Trick-or-Treat Trade-In."
Brenda Labutis is the hygienist
there. She says kids who turn in
their Halloween candy will get a
coupon for ice cream, and their
Halloween goodies will be sent
to members of the military
fighting overseas:
"Ice cream is a dairy treat --
it melts. It goes away.
It's not retentive. So
it's a better choice than a
sticky, chewy treat. So we
are going to give the kids a
coupon for a Dairy Queen treat,
and then we are going to enter
their name into a raffle for a
Target gift card. And then, all
the candy we collect will be
sent to the troops who are
fighting for our freedom."
Children's Dental Associates is
working with
American Troop Support Team,
a nonprofit organization that
sends boxes of “goods from home”
to the soldiers.
