Pediatric Dentistry is dedicated
to providing a thorough dental
service for the child from
infancy through adolescence in a
manner that is pleasant to both
the child and the parent. The
education of the child to dental
procedures at an early age is a
vital part of our treatment.
The
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that preventive
techniques and early detection of problems are most important for children
between one and two years of age.
A pleasant
beginning makes for a rewarding child-dentist relationship. It is sometimes
necessary for Mom or Dad to wait outside the operatory so the doctor can
establish a "one to one" rapport with the child, especially if child is
apprehensive.
Children
are not born with fears; fears are learned. Children grow quickly and
changes in the oral cavity occur rapidly. It is essential that examination
(x-rays when needed), prophylaxis (cleaning
the teeth) and fluoride treatments be performed at six month intervals, or
more frequently, if necessary. Strict adherence to this schedule is
strongly advised. We are always available in the
case of an emergency. Our answering service can reach us after hours and if
there is ever a problem, please do not hesitate to call. We can be reached
after hours...
We invite you to stay with your child during the
initial examination. During future appointments, we suggest you allow your
child to accompany our staff through the dental experience. We can usually
establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Our
purpose is to gain your child's confidence and overcome apprehension.
However, if you choose, you are more than welcome to accompany your child to the treatment room.
For the safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being
treated should remain in the reception room with a supervising adult.
